Is
Hypnosis like being asleep?
No, hypnosis is not sleep, but a totally relaxed state of
heightened awareness.
Will
I know what is being said to me?
Yes, you will recall everything that is being said to you
whilst under hypnosis.
Can
I be made to do things I don't want to do?
Absolutely not. Whilst in hypnosis you are aware of what
is being said and what is going on around you. Regardless
of how deep you go into hypnosis, you do not 'lose control'
and however passive you may appear, you remain in full control
of the situation. It is impossible for you to be made to
say or do anything that you would not normally wish to.
You are fully able to talk if you wish to (or not as the
case may be) and you may stand up and leave the room at
any time.
The
notion of a loss of control stems from the misconception
of stage hypnosis where participants are apparently made
to perform foolish acts. This participation is, however,
an entirely voluntary process and the volunteer is fully
aware of what they are letting themselves in for. Stage
hypnotists choose there performers from a large audience
of volunteers who are more than happy and willing to perform.
What
if I cannot be hypnotised?
Everyone can be hypnotised, except those suffering mental
illness or those who are heavily under the influence of
drugs or alcohol. Some people are, however, more hypnotisable
than others and this often depends upon one's willingness
to be hypnotised at the time. This willingness is often
influenced by many factors, including the trust and confidence
in the therapist and also the strength of the persons particular
need. Often a client will want to choose between a male
or a female therapist and this is available at the practice.
Who
would benefit from Hypnotherapy?
The answer to this question is 'virtually everyone'. Hypnotherapy
can be used to access a persons inner potential and most
people feel they are probably not performing to their full
or actual potential. Hypnotherapy is not just useful to
address this, but is also very useful at using the persons
own inner resourses to effect a beneficial change.
Bearing
this in mind, the problems which may be amenable to Hypnotherapy
is almost endless and certainly includes smoking, overeating,
alcoholism, stress, anxiety, panic, phobias, lack of confidence
and low self-esteem, fear of examinations and public speaking,
allergies and skin disorders, migraine, irritable bowel
syndrome (IBS) and obsessive compulsive
disorder (OCD).
Additionally,
it is also of benefit to those wishing to enhance their
sporting or artistic performance and we can provide a single
session to help deal with a particular event or provide
a longer course of therapy to provide an effective tool
to improve performance.
Hypnotherapy
is also used with other techniques to help resolve relationship
problems and often used within anger management stategies.
Will
I be asked to take any tablets or medication before the
session?
No, none at all.
Can
I have a discussion with you before the session?
Yes, we offer a free initial consultation, which is booked
as a separate appointment. The session lasts 30 minutes
and is simply an opportunity for us to meet and discuss
any particular concerns you may have. You will also be advised
on the type of therapy to benefit your needs. More....
How
long does a session take?
Sessions of Suggestion Therapy take approximately 45 minutes.
For Analytical Therapy one hour sessions are required for
between 8 - 12 weeks. Smoking cessation is also an hour
long session.
What
happens if I am unable to keep my appointment?
We do ask that 24 hours notice is given for cancellation.
